Time time time

Where does the time go I ask myself…..

Well, as you all probably know one way or another, we are back from Turkey and I still have yet to update all my photo albums and add Turkey in there with them. I found a nice little app that I am tossing up with using but just haven’t had a chance to do test it out yet.

Anyway, the holiday was great, wayyyyy better than I had expected. Unfortunately I was pretty beat up because of a number of bike accidents (one occurring the evening before flying out) but regardless it was still ok. I limped around for the first few days in Istanbul (one rather sore hip on one side and one very sore sole of my foot on the other side) and couldn’t really walk for too long but it was ok. Ina reckons that about 80% of the time we are traveling somewhere I’m damaged in one way or another – the price of an extreme lifestyle hehehe!

Istanbul is a pretty big city, 12.8 million inhabitants that grows to around 14 – 15 million in the day, and you can feel it. There is always something going on, any night of the week you can go out and do anything you want – go to a jazz bar, club, restaurant, go shopping….the list goes on….and all this until way late into the evening. But wow was it hot!!! Every day was well over 30°c and that was a very pleasant surprise – coming from Berlin where the Summer has been pretty average. The people there are also so nice and friendly, I must say I really wasn’t expecting that, coming from Berlin one has a number of (bad) opinions regarding Turkish people and I can honestly say that the people in Turkey are nothing like the ones here in Berlin. Anyway, met some really nice Turkish people over there and hope to keep in touch with them – in fact, already am.

So from Istanbul we traveled to the south coast of Ölüdeniz to a place called Kabak, we had to do this by bus because there really isn’t any easier way (which meant an intimidating 12-14 hour bus ride) but the buses in Turkey are so modern and the roads are pretty good so it really was ok. Another thing about Turkey which is great is that everything runs smoothly, things also run for the better part on time (early even – look out!) and everything is so organized, very similar to any westernized city really.

Kabak is a really remote location that is in a National Park (which means people can’t build “proper” houses there) so there is only camping type accommodation available. We stayed at a place called Reflections in a little bungalow which had a great view, great food (half board included in the price – there really isn’t anywhere else to get food if they didn’t provide that) and great people. It was so relaxing and comfortable that we decided not to travel any further and just chill out there. So we stayed there for a little over a week and then returned to Istanbul for a couple of days before returning to Berlin. We will go back over there at another point to travel more around, this time it was just great to relax and swim every day.

And now here I am, still in Summer in Berlin but getting highs of around 15°c, a far cry from the beautiful weather we experienced there. The days are once again becoming shorter and the rain is increasing – oh the joy!

Well, that was a brief run-down of the holiday, I couldn’t recommend Turkey enough to anyone who wants to have a nice relaxing interesting holiday, it is one of those places that exceeds all expectations, and thank God, since the last miserable holiday we had in shit-hole Morocco; I needed it!

Back Again

Well, I got home today after a couple of beautiful weeks (a bit more I guess) away in Turkey and what have I been doing for the last 3 hours? Cleaning my apartment! All because an inconsiderate unnamed person decided to leave my place in a condition that was far from how it was originally left.

I am very reasonable and flexible and don’t particularly care what anyone does in my house while I’m away (within reason mind!), so long as it doesn’t interfere with Ina or myself, but a basic level of respect must be maintained. My trust has been broken and I feel terribly sad that this has happened.

I was by no means an angel when I was younger (I think quite a few of you out there would agree more than wholeheartedly), but I always at least tried to cover my tracks as best I could……(often out of respect, sometimes out of pure fear) and as best I could was, for the better part, usually good enough.

Arrggghhh – Now that was annoying!

Well, as you may or may not know, I have been receiving e-mails from ImmobilienScout24 daily as I am no longer happy living in our current apartment.  That is by no means to say that our apartment sucks, it’s just there are so many fucking things that annoy me about the place. Here, let me make a list for you:

  • No dishwasher – I am 34 years old and am sick of washing fucking dishes and don’t see why I should, if I can afford a dishwasher why don’t I get one I hear you say…..well, there is no freaking room in our kitchen, that’s why.
  • Shitty kitchen – let’s get it straight, our kitchen sucks……balls! There is not enough bench-space, the oven sucks ass, basically we would have to invest at least  a couple of grand to get something better and I DO NOT see the logic in investing in anyone else’s apartment.
  • No balcony – this is a sucky point, not always do I want to go outside to be outside, a balcony is the only way this can be accomplished and we do not have one.
  • We live on the Hochparterre, so it is pretty freaking dark in Winter. This was planned because of the noise I can make when making music (not that I’ve been doing any of that for a while). If there is no-one under you to complain about the bass you are generally in a much better position. The only option to this is to have a multi-level apartment as we do in Sydney.
  • Basic apartment reminds me of Uni housing, not really modern at all, nothing has been done properly, even the relatively brand-new flooring squeaks really badly because it was so botched! It’s a nice enough apartment really but I want a few more creature comforts I guess and I want the place to look a bit nicer.

Anyway, I received an e-mail on Friday of this totally wicked apartment where there would be a viewing on Saturday only, at 10.00am and I was totally g’d up to go – I specifically DID NOT go out on Friday night so I would be all nice and fresh for the morning. This apartment was just around the corner, was 100 square metres, had a roof-top terrace and a balcony, was split over two levels, had a beautiful kitchen with plenty of bench space AND a dishwasher – basically – this place was the shizzle.

Since I have been looking at apartments for such a long time in Berlin (I originally found the apartment we’re in at the moment as well) I really have a good idea on what’s out there and this one was most definitely the wickedest I’ve ever seen in Friedrichshain.

Anyway, the plan was to wake up early on Saturday and go over there for a look – but did I wake up? NO – No, that’s right, either my alarms didn’t go off or I slept straight through them and missed the fucking appointment. Can you fucking believe my frustration? I am soooooo upset with myself, this was one of the apartments you generally look at and wonder how the hell the tenants were so lucky to have scored it……………and I didn’t even go into the race trying to score it.

So that’s it…..stuck in this fucker for a while longer, if it was up to Ina we wouldn’t move, because as usual, nothing really bothers her; – not the kitchen, nor the benchspace, nor the lack of balcony etc. I guess it annoys me more because I know for a fact that we have none of these worries when living in Sydney, we have exactly the things in Sydney that I have mentioned in this post that I want to have in Berlin and that makes it suck balls even more. I want to have the same freaking things here too…..I want my life to be nicer and easier and if I can’t make it that way then I start to wonder what the fuck I am working for……..cause I’d rather just quit while I’m ahead rather than stay stuck in the mud!!

I would have added some pictures of the place which would have made me feel more sick – but of course they are now unavailable – why? – because some lucky bastard has already rented the place!
