Quick update!!

And I mean quick, last day of cramming (if that’s possible with a language??) before the exam. Going to do a practice exam or two today and see where I’m going wrong.

No washing machine still. Told the company we ordered it from to forget about it and give us a refund. Quickly went to some shops yesterday and ended up buying a Siemens. So that’s a Bosch for the apartment in Sydney and a Siemens here. No one can say we aren’t supporting the German economy!!

Received a job offer and signed the contract on Monday from the company that I really wanted to work for. Am so happy I could almost burst…..but I guess I won’t do that since it could get kinda messy.

Flying out tomorrow night after the exam to Holland for Extrema, it’s really a bit of an anti-climax now with all the other things going on. Sorry to say this Michael but the thought of bailing has crossed my mind on more than one occasion.

Start work on Monday. Really looking forward to it.

Love to all. See you on the other side!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I did say three didn’t I?

Yes indeed, a couple of posts ago I mentioned how our washing machine and my mobile phone broke and also mentioned how generally speaking it occurs in threes. Well, the network drive that we have all our music and photos on has unfortunately bitten the dust. Luckily I predicted this failure a few weeks ago and backed it all up to the server but still, bit of a pain and yet another unnecessary expense. Oh well, guess it’s time to go shopping then. ๐Ÿ˜‰

p.s. Ina’s first exam for the semester today, keep your fingers crossed!!

Ordered but where is it??

Our new machine So, last week we ordered a new washing machine (which you can see to the left), but it was a little bit funny actually because after we’d ordered and paid for it we received an email the next day saying that they could no longer supply that washing machine and if we’d like a refund. Normally I would consider it good business practice to offer alternative washing machines and at the very end of the mail mention that a refund would be possible if desired but there you go. Really funny thing is too that it was only the model we were looking at that was superseded, so really the company (mentioning no names) should have simply advised us of that and ask if we’d like to go ahead with the newer model. Anyway, to cut a long story short, and as I’m sure you can already presume, we realised that the model had been superseded and changed the order to that one. Seriously though, they could have lost a sale. It’s really cool looking though and should perform pretty well and we’re being environmentally conscious since it has an A+ energy rating. It’s called the Indesit Moon…….funky name too!

Also ordered a new phone as I’m just using an old Nokia for the interim since my last phone broke, ordered it last week (actually got my sisters boyfriend to pick it up in London because phones are a lot cheaper there!) and he sent it on Friday and I can see by looking on Royal Mail’s website that it was sent to the Berlin Mail Depot on Saturday but as yet has not arrived to me. Now I’m starting to get a little bit anxious because I’ve had a few things get to the Berlin Mail Depot and just never make it here, I think the last thing was a pair of speaker stands. I don’t really want to lose faith in the Berlin mail service but I must say, they are not really instilling confidence in me. I guess I’ll wait until the end of the week and if it still hasn’t turned up will have to get Chris (my sisters boyfriend) to make a claim, bugger! Problem is I really need a new phone as the battery on the old Nokia just doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. Oh well, let’s wait and see.

Second interview today, wish me luck. Thank god it’s a bit cooler today though, nothing more embarrassing than sitting with people you hardly know and sweating profusely (some would say like a glass blowers arse), I guess you gotta be lucky sometimes.

Well, been studying German pretty hardcore lately and as usual, the more you think you know the more you realise you don’t. It’s a real p.i.t.a. that the last two exams are so much after the course has finished. Again though, what can I do? Still, should be ok, really need to practice my speaking though because that’s the hard part for me these days.

Anyway, better run, will keep you all posted ๐Ÿ™‚

Broken stuff :(

Always happens in three I believe so I’ll just have to wait anxiously for the third instalment won’t I? Last week our washing machine gave up the ghost (I received a phone call from Ina letting me know that the display of the washing machine was giving an error code and had made the mains power from the bathroom switch off) and I probably gave Ina the wrong advice.

I said to just switch the power back on and press the pause button on the machine to get it going again. Hmmm, great advice huh, I guess I didn’t really think that one through so well. I mean, if the mains power goes out in the bathroom that tends to signify that there is something shorting inside the machine causing the problem, which tends to suggest that the washing machine was having electrical issues. Therefore just trying to force it to go back on would most likely only make the problem worse. And yes……..it did. Our washing machine is now dead with a new error code showing motor failure (and we all know how much motors are to replace in the damn things!) so it is time to buy a new one. Ouch! that is going to hurt the budget. Real pity too because it is or rather was a good washing machine made by Bauknecht.

The next thing to go wrong was my phone, I dropped it the other day, not too hard mind, and now the screen is intermittently deranged which makes it unusable during this time. Problem with that is that the time the sceen is functioning normally is gradually reducing, so, have to buy a new phone…….double ouch!!

So what next? Hard to say which electrical item will hit the dust next when there are so many in this house……..but I’ll keep you all informed.
